Jean-Marc Autran is the fourth generation of his family to run this wonderful, hard-working, and traditional estate based in Sablet. Sablet is the village directly north of Gigondas, and the sandy soils found here give us wines with a bit more elegance and nerve than those produced further south. Autran and his family farm without chemicals, they hand harvest, they ferments with native yeast in cement tanks, and they bottle with minimal fining, filtration, and sulfur.
Their 2022 Sablet Rouge is a triumphant wine from this very challenging vineyard. Widespread frosts decimated their crop, but the Autrans worked with what they had, and they produce a wonderful red wine. 75% Grenache and 25% Syrah, this flows with aromas and flavors of brambly, spicy red and dark berries and an herbaceous rusticity that lovers of classic Rhone wines will adore.
