“Pedro Gonzalez Mittelbrunn makes this wine entirely from the local grape of Prieto Picudo. He farms his grapes organically, with the wine made from a combination of twenty-something year-old vines and a parcel of centenarians more than one hundred years of age. It is fermented with indigenous yeasts and raised solely in stainless steel tanks. The 2023 version comes in at an even thirteen percent octane and delivers a deep, precise and black fruity bouquet of dark berries, cassis, coffee bean, a touch of roasted gamebird, dark soil tones and a smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, focused and nicely transparent down to its soil tones, with some firm tannins, good balance and grip and a long, complex finish. This is a young wine and will need some cellaring time to soften up those tannins, but it is going to be a very good drink in due course. 2032-2055”
