Wine Advocate 92 Points - The golden yellow 2016 Muskateller mit Achtung is a terrific white that was fermented spontaneously on the skins for four weeks in oak barrels and aged on the full lees for seven months before it was bottled unfiltered in April 2017. This intense, ripe and fresh Muscat is just beautiful with its coolish, precise expression. With discreet rose petal, sesame and fennel blossom/seed aromas on the nose, this is an intense, round and mouth-filling Muscat with ripe but refreshing acidity and super fine but grippy tannins. Gorgeously structured, salty-mineral and tensioned, this medium-bodied wine weighs in with just 11.5% alcohol. It is a fabulous, stimulating food wine with lovely grip and spiciness. Try fennel and sesame with it!
Fred Loimer refers to his “mit ACHTUNG” series as “Slow Wines” because they’re produced with minimal modern technology and utilize time rather than shortcuts in their vinification. Muskateller mit ACHTUNG (Muskateller with attention) is made from biodynamically-farmed vineyards in Gumpoldskirchen. Whole berries are spontaneously fermented in oak casks for four weeks before pressing, followed by an additional seven months aging on the full lees. The wine is bottled unfiltered with a small addition of sulfur.
